Duplex pipes resist corrosion

A Sandvik Materials Technology UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 20, 2008

Sandvik SAF 2205 offers a high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride bearing environments and those containing hydrogen sulphide.

Sandvik has added the duplex stainless steel SAF 2205 heavy wall pipe to its standard stock programme.

The standard stock range has increased to include pipe of 51-203mm nominal bore in a range of wall thicknesses and these new sizes are now available direct from Sandvik.

Sandvik SAF 2205 offers a high resistance to stress corrosion cracking in chloride bearing environments and those containing hydrogen sulphide.

It also has a high mechanical strength, offering roughly twice the proof strength of austenitic stainless steel, with high resistance to corrosion fatigue, pitting and crevice corrosion.

Used extensively in the offshore oil and gas industry, on heat exchangers and in demanding applications in the process industry, the material provides high resistance to erosion corrosion, offers design advantages as a result of its physical properties and has good weldability.
