Rotherham-based seal manufacturer Asseal is to help ensure Sheffield Hallam University engineering students benefit from using the latest industry-standard CAD software.
Rotherham-based seal manufacturer Asseal is to help ensure Sheffield Hallam University engineering students benefit from using the latest industry-standard CAD software.
The company is helping to develop the next generation of British designers and engineers by providing free copies of state-of-the-art Solid Edge CAD software to the students as well as to pupils of other local schools under their three year 'back to grass roots' sponsorship campaign.
The campaign's main focus is to provide industrial support for GCSE and A-level design and technology students.
Most of the company's own products are designed using the software.
Aesseal's Director of Engineering, Alan Roddis said, "3D computer aided design is at the heart of the manufacturing industry.
In a rapidly changing technological world, the direct and indirect benefits of 3D design software are growing at an exponential rate".
"Academic establishments cannot be expected to keep abreast of this changing environment.
Unfortunately this leads to major differences between industrial practices and academic class work.
Ultimately this means that students choose their career path, ignorant of such a rewarding career in design", added Roddis.
David Eaton, Director of the School of Engineering commented, " It is gratifying to see a successful engineering company like Aesseal, putting such a lot of time, money and effort into supporting the engineers of the future.
This is just the type of scheme that we require to show young people that careers in design and manufacturing can be interesting and fulfilling, and to ensure that our own students can keep up to date with the latest technologies".
Aesseal will also provide classroom training material and run an annual student design competition.
Furthermore, the company will attend school careers seminars and give pupils the opportunity to visit it's Rotherham Headquarters and see for themselves how industrial computer aided design influences product design in the real world.
