Sercos Interface has licensed Automata, a specialist in industrial automation and communication technology, to use the Sercos III IP core for its own products and customer-specific projects.

Automata will assume the maintenance and the technical support of the IP core, which represents the reference implementation for Sercos III and which is used in the Sercon100 master and slave controllers.

The first products based on the Sercos IP core were presented at the recent SPS/IPC/Drives 2005 show in Nurenberg, Germany.

The Sercos III IP core contains all necessary hardware functions needed for Sercos III, including timing, synchronisation and the processing of cyclic and noncyclic data, based on two integrated Ethernet MACs.

The Sercos III IP core is used in the Sercon100 master and slave communication controllers based on the Spartan-3 FPGA platform, manufactured by Xilinx.

In addition, the FPGA core can be licensed by manufacturers to integrate the Sercos functionality into their own FPGAs.
