UK control valve specialist Severn Glocon has been awarded the contract to supply control valves for an upgrade project on the Tern Alpha production platform in the UK North Sea.

Tern is operated by Shell UK Exploration and Production (known as Shell Expro), the operator in the UK sector of the North Sea for Shell and Esso.

Severn Glocon will supply Series 5000 globe control valves in sizes from 2" to 14", rated from ANSI Class 300 to Class 2500, for hydrocarbon gas and produced water applications.

Severn Glocon is also supplying a specialised 4" multi layer trim (MLT) valve, rated at ANSI class 2500, for deareated seawater service.

All the valves have been designed and engineered to meet Shell Expro's exacting operating criteria; the majority will be equipped with pneumatic actuators and smart positioners.

Severn Glocon's contract, with a value of more than £100,000, is the first from Shell Expro for the Tern field, although the company is a major control valve supplier to Shell Expro elsewhere in the North Sea and at other locations.
