Severn Glocon to show laser scanning technology

A Severn Glocon product story

Oil and gas valve specialist Severn Glocon Group will introduce laser scanning technology offered by its Severn Quantapoint division to Offshore Europe's delegates in September.

Severn Quantapoint enables facilities to be 'digitised' using patented laser scanning, creating an interactive 3D plant model to aid the addition or modification of equipment.

This technology reduces the need for repeat field trips, optimising schedules and improving accuracy to eliminate rework.

Project managers can essentially visit the 'digitised facility' on their desktop without visiting the site, accessing buildings, equipment and pipe work.

Most other scanning technology currently on the market delivers 'point clouds', where important details can be unclear or even missing entirely, according to the company.

Severn Quantapoint provides laser models, which are solid, high-definition and much smaller files than 'point clouds'.

Colin Findlay, director of Severn Glocon Group, said: 'Our Severn Quantapoint division brings significant benefits to the offshore community, where field trips are costly and can be difficult to coordinate.

'By digitising facilities, we are able to put "as-built" information at project managers' fingertips, providing visualisation, analysis, quality control and decision support services to eliminate potential errors from across the project lifecycle,' he added.
