Several features of the CG5 actuator help eliminate debris build up: mounting brackets are electro-polished to create the smoothest surface possible, end caps are screwed on rather than crimped to provide a smooth profile, and metal plugs are supplied to prevent residue accumulation in unused mounting threads.
The CG5 actuator uses a special rod scraper that minimises water infiltration to the rod seals.
Compared with standard actuators, this increases the service life by an average of ten times.

Blow gun produces smooth fluid flow
The special valve design and construction of the series VMG blow gun can create smooth flow of fluid.
For even greater service life, the cylinder can be disassembled for easy seal replacement.
Nitrile rubber (NBR) or fluoro rubber (FKM) seals are available; nitrile has high abrasion and petroleum-based fluid resistance; fluoro has high chlorine and sulphur resistance.
The CG5 has a maximum operating pressure of 1.0MPa and is available in eight bore sizes ranging from 20 to 100mm with imperial or metric rod end/ports.
Bore sizes 20-63mm have a piston speed of 50-1000mm/s; bore sizes 80 and 100mm have a piston speed of 50-700mm/s.
Band mount auto switches with IP67 watertight construction and red/green LED operating position indicator are available.
The ambient/fluid temperature ranges for the CG5 are -10 to +70C without the auto switch, and -10 to +60C with.
Adjustable air cushions and rubber bumpers are both standard options.
Michael Fallon, Actuator Product Manager for SMC, says: "The CG5 series actuator is a unique and very cost effective solution for applications that require excellent corrosion resistance or wash-down capability.
Before SMC introduced the CG5, designers with applications requiring wash-down capability or corrosion resistance were often forced to specify bulky and expensive tie-rod cylinders never originally designed for these applications".
