SGS Korea inspects Qatari LNG carrier

A SGS SA - Industrial Services product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Feb 20, 2009

SGS Korea has carried out an inspection of Qatar's 266,000M3 liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier Mozah.

The inspection contract was awarded by Samsung Heavy Industries, which built Mozah: the largest carrier in the world, able to load 50,000M3 more gas than existing carriers.

The primary barrier was inspected by an ammonia leak test and pressure test and the secondary barrier by a pressure test.

SGS completed the inspection of Mozah in less than one month.

Three times more equipment and staff than usual were secured in order to complete the task according to the client's requirements.

Samsung Heavy Industries, which was contracted to build Mozah in March 2006, delivered the carrier to Qatargas in a ceremony last year.
