SGS supports companies exporting to Russia and CIS

A SGS SA - Industrial Services product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Mar 25, 2009

SGS Industrial Services is assisting international companies exporting to Russia and other CIS countries in compliance with statutory and/or client-based requirements.

The inspection, verification, testing and certification company offers full service solutions throughout the supply chain, including design review, vendor surveillance, quality control, quality assurance and inspection.

According to SGS, CE marking and most international quality standards are not recognised by Russian/CIS authorities for the purpose of conformity assessment for Russia or the CIS.

Depending on the nature of the goods to be shipped to Russia or another CIS country, compliance with one or more certification requirements may be required.

There are 19 mandatory certification systems regulated by laws of the Russian Federation, including 'Gost R', 'Elektrosvyaz' and 'Fire Safety', as well as more than 300 voluntary ones.

The Gost R Certificate of Conformity (CoC) is the most common permissive document in Russia testifying that a product meets necessary safety standards.

Prior to the construction of an industrial or civil site in Russian territory, a number of approvals on engineering, construction and other technical activities are required.

A project may need various combinations of permits, certificates, licences and other approvals for its implementation.

A large investment project could require up to 500 permissive documents.
