SGS Industrial Services, an inspection, verification, testing and certification company, is authorised to issue the required Certificate of Conformity (CoC) for goods being imported into Saudi Arabia.
SGS provides assistance to the exporters and ensures that their shipments conform to applicable requirements.
Products exported to Saudi Arabia are subject to the mandatory certification programme of the Ministry and Commerce of Saudi Arabia.
The SASO ICCP programme was phased out pursuant to the Council of Ministers Decree N.213 and a new conformity assessment programme has been approved as a replacement following the Council of Ministers Decree N.6386.
The new SASO programme requires that products exported to the Saudi Arabia have to be accompanied by a CoC to prove their compliance with the requirement of the applicable standards and technical regulations.
The CoC is mandatory for goods clearance.
Consignments without certificates or without meeting the requirements of the Conformity Assessment Programme will be rejected.
The aim of the Conformity Assessment Programme is to ensure that the goods imported into the kingdom meet the required quality, safety and security requirements.
This programme is also said to minimise the opportunities for trade fraud and mitigate the risk of rejection of products at Saudi ports and borders.
The verification may involve one or a combination of the following activities: physical inspection prior to shipment; sampling, testing and analysis in accredited laboratories; an audit of product manufacturing processes; and a documentary check and assessment of conformity with the requirements of the applicable technical regulations and standards (SASO, GSO and IEC).
