SGS has announced plans to attend the Wind Powerexpo 2009 (22-24 September) and the Technical Conference on Risk Assessment (13 October 2009) in Spain.

Both events are organised by the Spanish Wind Energy Association (Asociacion Empresarial Eolica - AEE), which represents Spain's wind-power sector to different entities and administrations.

AEE also forms working groups to take action on issues, organise events for the industry and publish reports and studies about the market.

The AEE's two upcoming events will provide SGS experts with the opportunity to demonstrate the company's capabilities in the wind-energy sector.

Wind Powerexpo 2009 will take place on 22-24 September at the Zaragoza Exhibition Center in Spain.

The event will cover the most important topics in the wind-power sector and international speakers will share their views on issues such as wind-farm direction phases, transport and logistics, operation and maintenance, repowering of existing farms and offshore wind energy.

In the session on blade maintenance and repair, Torsten Muuss, SGS's global technical manager for renewable energy, will talk about rotor-blade problems and inspection methods.

AEE and the European Wind Energy Association (EWEA) have organised the Technical Conference on Risk Assessment in the Wind Sector, planned for 13 October 2009.

The one-day conference will be held in Pamplona, Spain and will focus on risk assessment in wind-turbine workshops, transportation, installation, maintenance, exploitation and the final phase of dismantling.

With this conference, AEE and EWEA aim to participate in the European Campaign on Risk Assessment, launched by the European Agency for Safety and Health (EU-OSHA) to create a guide for risk assessment in the wind sector.

In the session on Risk Assessment in Wind Farm Installation, Marta Pejenaute, health and safety technician at SGS, will give a speech about machinery and equipment.

SGS provides inspection and audit services in accordance with international standards to ensure the health, safety and environmental (HSE) aspects of wind-farm projects both onshore and offshore.

The range of services that SGS offers for the wind-energy sector spans all stages of wind-farm projects, beginning with project-feasibility assessments, through wind-farm certification, to review of maintenance-management programmes.
