Backup batteries are easier to install

Saft has redesigned its NCX rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries for faster, easier and safer installation.

Saft NCX rechargeable nickel-cadmium batteries, developed to provide dependable backup power for remote or outside telecomms plants, have been redesigned for faster, easier and safer installation The key improvement is that instead of the installer having to undertake the fiddly and time-consuming task of putting on the connector covers and assembling the tubing parts for the central watering system (CWS), the NCX modules are delivered with connector covers already in place and hydraulic tubing pre-assembled at the factory

The use of 'foolproof' colour-coded connectors also reduces the potential for mistakes.

The NCX block battery is a sturdy cell type designed by Saft to fulfil the demanding requirements of remote or outside telecom plants including local or access terminals, base transceiver stations, basestation controllers, optical node units and so on.

Installation of the compact, modular NCX is simple as it fits most existing VRLA (valve regulated lead acid) battery compartments with ease and uses the same charging equipment.

The combination of stable sintered/plastic bonded plate technology with flooded electrolyte and corrosion-free chemistry enables the NCX to eliminate problems such as dry-out, grid corrosion, plate growth and thermal runaway.

With a much longer life, predictable operation, less maintenance and lower life cycle cost, the NCX is a realistic and attractive alternative to potentially troublesome VRLA batteries, especially in extreme operating temperatures (-20 to +40C).

Electrically interconnected NCX modules are linked by a central watering system (CWS) which provides a single inlet to fill all cells to the correct level of level, with a quick disconnection to facilitate a swift and safe setup when servicing the battery.

During operation hydrogen gas is channelled through the CWS and exhausted through a flame arrester.

The NCX modules comprise from three up to eight cells, and 38 NCX cells are recommended for a typical 48V bulk power application.

The cells are available in three capacities: NCX 80, NCX 125, NCX 160 (nominal capacity 80, 125 and 160Ah). Request a free brochure from Saft Industrial Batteries ...
