Slideway oil proveds better demulsification

A Shell Lubricants product story

Shell's new high-performance Tonna Oil S machine tool slideway lubricant has been formulated to provide excellent adhesion and demulsification, to make machine tools more efficient and easier to clean

Increasingly, machine tools are using coolants with a high water content, delivered at very high pressures and flow rates.

These conditions create a very aggressive environment for slideway lubricants, causing 'wash-off' problems for the machine tool and cleaning problems for the lubricant tank.

Shell's new high-performance Tonna Oil S machine tool slideway lubricant has been specially formulated to provide excellent adhesion and demulsification, to make machine tools more efficient and easier to clean.

Applications include machine tool slideway systems, hydraulic and combined hydraulic and slideway systems, and machine tool gearboxes.

Shell Tonna Oil S has been developed to provide effective and consistent lubrication that resists 'wash-off' by water soluble coolants - ensuring a constant lubricating film and preventing slideways from running dry.

Rapid demulsification also allows efficient skimming of machine tool sumps to help maintain the coolant in peak condition and prevent smells and the possibility of skin irritations.

Machine trials have also shown that using Tonna Oil S with a variety of water-soluble metalworking fluids can increase coolant life three-fold.

Shell Tonna Oil S meets ISO/DIS 6743-13, DIN 51524 HLP and DIN 51517 CLP standards; Cincinnati Milacron frictional requirements, and has been performance tested for friction at SKC Technik's laboratory where it demonstrated excellent stick-slip properties on cast iron and plastic materials.

The new additive system developed for Tonna Oil S ensures full compatibility with virtually all water soluble metalworking fluids and the ISO VG 68 viscosity grade is suitable for the majority of metalworking applications.
