New formulation doubles engine oil life
A new long-life gas engine oil will help customers to reduce downtime and unplanned maintenance.
Shell Lubricants has launched a new long-life gas engine oil that will help customers to reduce downtime and unplanned maintenance The new generation low ash oil, Shell Mysella XL, forms part of the specialist Shell Mysella product range and has been developed for use in high output four-stroke engines, offering operators up to twice the oil drain interval of industry standard low ash gas engine oils

Frederic Farshchi explains how environmentally considerate lubricants can help to significantly reduce the impact of oil spillages in environmentally sensitive applications.
Shell Mysella XL has been specifically formulated to address the new lubrication challenges of modern gas engines used in power generation, cogeneration, gas collection and transmission applications.
These operations usually require high outputs and low emissions, placing increased stress on the lubricating oil.
Shell Mysella XL's new technology has been proven in field trials to resist oil stress for longer, allowing extended oil life without compromising performance.

Shell Tonna oils contain additives to enhance their friction-reducing properties and their tackiness characteristics, as well as meet changing health and safety requirements.
Even in highly demanding cogeneration applications, Shell Mysella XL resists oxidation and nitration, increase of viscosity and the formation of harmful acids.
Comments Bala Balachandran, Power Sector and Brand Manager for Shell Lubricants: "Shell Mysella XL has been formulated to help ensure our customers benefit fully from industry innovations".
"Advances in spark plug life, for example, have changed the emphasis on maintenance intervals to oil life so, by producing a gas engine oil that lasts up to twice as long, we can help our customers maintain a competitive advantage".
The specially formulated Mysella XL lubricant can help minimise engine wear, lubricate extremely hot pistons in new high-speed and medium-speed engines, without forming excessive deposits in ring grooves and control ash deposits in valves and spark plugs.
These excellent performance properties help to reduce problems such as knocking, thereby safeguarding fuel efficiency and energy production.
In developing Shell Mysella XL, Shell's scientists worked closely with a number of original equipment manufacturers (OEMs), resulting in the product being approved by most major engine manufacturers including Rolls-Royce, Waukesha and MWM Deutz.
Bala Balachandran concludes: "Mysella XL's new technology is more resistant to oil stress than industry standard life oils".
"The lubricant's long life properties can be used to help synchronise oil drain intervals with maintenance schedules, while helping to prolong oil filter, intercooler, exhaust and catalyst lifetimes".
"Shell Mysella XL will assist operators in increasing engine efficiency and help to reduce maintenance and oil drain costs, which in many cases can exceed the cost of the oil being changed". Request a free brochure from Shell Lubricants ...
