Teams from all around the UK and Europe took part, all hoping to win the title of "World's most fuel-efficient vehicle", and in turn gain an entry in the Guinness Book of World Records.
Competition for this year's Shell Eco-Marathon UK was very tough, and poor weather made a new world record unlikely; however three teams from France were still fighting for the honour of being the most fuel efficient vehicle on the day.
At the end of the event, Microjoule from France took the honours with a figure of 8263 miles per gallon.

Schumacher commented: "What the teams and Shell are doing here at Rockingham is amazing".
"It sounds unbelievable how little fuel is used to get the cars to travel such a distance".
"I am told that if we used a Shell Eco-Marathon car on Sunday I would be able to drive three World Championships without stopping for fuel, that would certainly give us a great competitive advantage - it may not be too fast, but I wouldn't have to make many pit stops".
In the hotly contest Autocar Schools Class, Intercop, from the Newland House School in Twickenham, took the honours with a final fuel consumption of 1336 miles per gallon.
And the top British entry was Team Green from Somerset with 4866 miles per gallon.
Rubens Barrichello said: "I have had great fun here today with Shell".
"All the teams are fantastic; they have shown just what can be achieved with fuel efficiency which is a vital part of modern Formula One".
"I am amazed to see they have considered so many elements when designing their car such as rolling resistance, aerodynamics, engine efficiency and driving techniques - the similarity to Formula One is interesting and I wouldn't be surprised to see some of the teams here today working on my car in the near future".
Norman Koch, organiser of the Shell Eco-Marathon UK said: "I would like to congratulate every team for taking part today, everyone has made a tremendous effort and the teams are setting a good example for car manufacturers".
