Lubricant eases corrosion prevention

A Shell Lubricants product story

The micro-wax free technology used by Shell Ensis PL 1608 allows for easier application at room temperature.

Shell Lubricants has released the Shell Ensis PL 1608 a prelube corrosion preventative, using new micro-wax free technology.

It can be used for the protection of ferrous and nonferrous metal surfaces.

Shell Ensis PL 1608 is a two-in-one product with anti-rust properties, and has been designed for both the metals sector and car manufacturers.

Laurent Barnagaud, Shell Metalworking Marketing Manager said: "Steel manufacturers are looking for a prelube which can address the associated traditional difficulties with application, corrosion and storage".

"At the same time, their customers in car manufacturing are struggling with the compatibility of prelubes with the array of different metals they use and the different processes these metals are subject to during the manufacturing process".

"Shell Ensis PL 1608 brings real solutions and practical benefits to both these key groups".

"For example, the micro-wax free technology used by Shell Ensis PL 1608 allows for easier application at room temperature, so metal companies can apply direct from the storage tank freeing up valuable time and reducing energy costs as there is no longer a requirement to heat the prelube".

"In today's climate of ever increasing energy costs, this can lead to significant savings".

The micro-wax free technology also reduces the chances of filter blockages, which can lead to regular cleaning requirements as well as unplanned maintenance and down-time.

Up to 25% less prelube is required when using Shell Ensis PL1608.

"Car manufacturers gain from the better drawing properties of Shell Ensis PL 1608" Laurent said.

"The product's high EP content means that less, and in some cases no, additional oiling for drawing is required".

"The micro-wax free technology also reduces the 'dry island' phenomenon, ensuring that the oil film stays even and stable".

"This new technology also helps to significantly improve the multimetal corrosion protection of finished parts, including zinc-coated steel".

"Another key benefit for car manufacturers is Shell Ensis PL 1608's compatibility with processes further down the line, including adhering and degreasing" Laurent said.
