Safety interlock switch can never be bypassed
Schmersal (UK) have introduced a new range of safety interlock switches that are activated by an individually-coded, geometrically-unique, actuating key with 15,000 different combinations.
Light barriers take on space limitations
Schmersal (UK) Ltd, specialists in man-machine safety systems, have introduced the SLC400 range of optoelectronic safety light grid barriers and curtains, designed to guard plant and machinery
The machines operate two levels of safety using safety switches manufactured by Schmersal UK.
At the feed end of the machine product is drawn in using a 600mm caterpillar belt.
Access to the belt is protected with a Class 2 Schmersal AZ15 safety switch with a separate actuator and multiple coding.
The inlet and outlet bushes that guide product through the machine are guarded using Schmersal BNS 303 barrel sensors, which are designed to monitor the position of sliding, hinged and removable safety guards.
Access to the cutter lid that guards a flying knife rotating at 2000rpm, is protected with one of Schmersal's new Class 3 TVS 400 hinge-operated safety switches - an innovative design that integrates the switch and the hinge into a single safety unit.
And the slideaway that moves the cutter head away from the feed belt is guarded with another AZ15 safety interlock switch.
A spokesman for Peter Gillard says they have been using Schmersal's barrel sensors for a number of years and are impressed with their quality and reliability.
"When we decided to buy all our safety products from one manufacturer, Schmersal were the obvious choice because they make everything we need." He says.
"They have also thought about the way products are used, so all their equipment is very well designed.
And we are more confident knowing that our machines are protected by components from the same manufacturer.".
