Schmersal UK is supplying safety position switches to protect kiln operators and help the manufacturer meet the latest standards for the Health and Safety at Work Act.

Cromartie Kilns, a designer and manufacturer of kilns for educational, commercial and hobby use, fits Schmersal's TR335 and TR461 position switches to the lift-up lids on its kilns.

The TR335 meets the 16amps resistive load for Cromartie's low to medium range kilns and the TR461 meets the 25A resistive load for the higher range.

The TR three-pole switches specified by Cromartie feature a fail-safe system to protect users against electrical hazards.

They operate over the full 90-degree opening of the kiln lids, which are fitted with support stays or gas struts to assist opening by a lone user.

TR335 position switches are suitable for sliding and hinged safety guards that need to be closed to ensure operational security.

All switches offer an IP67 protection and can be mounted in any mounting position.

Other features include a metal enclosure, snap or slow actuation and approval to EN 50041.

Options include an LED to protect against incorrect polarity and voltage spikes.

Commenting on the use of Schmersal's safety switches, Tim Bosson managing director of Cromartie Kilns says: "All our kilns are manufactured to the highest standards with ease of use and safety very much in mind.

When we specify safety switches we choose Schmersal, because we want to use a company that works to the same standards".
