Safety relay applications explained on
CD-ROM
A free CD-ROM will help engineers design and integrate the Protect range of safety relay modules into safety circuits while conforming to the relevant safety standards.
Machine safety specialist Schmersal is offering a free CD-ROM to help engineers design and integrate its range of Protect safety relay modules into safety circuits while conforming to the relevant safety standards Explaining the importance of the initiative, Schmersal's Product Manager for Safety Relay Modules Steven Hill points out: "Because safety circuits do not need to conform to a standard control category, a mix of different categories is possible"

The R-Series is IP65-rated to provide protection in the most extreme ambient conditions, even during frequent activation over long periods.
Taking Protect safety relays as an example, virtually all combinations have been developed to comply with control category 4 to EN954-1.
This means that the fault management and detection in the modules' internal circuitry is self-monitoring.
However, this does not have to apply to the input and output circuitry or to the entire safety circuit.
Based on predefined selection possibilities, the Protect CD creates an individual wiring diagram and states the control category for the relevant part of the safety circuit, which the design engineer can then print.
84 different connection options are shown, underlining the multifunctionality of the new modules.
Other information, including series connections and the integration of manual or automatic start pushbuttons, is also on the CD.
