Roger's new role as Deputy Chief Executive will include becoming Business Manager for Sira's established Quality Management Systems (QMS) and Environmental Management Systems (EMS) certification services.
He will also be responsible for the development of new certification services relating to CASS (Conformity Assessment of Safety-related Systems to IEC 61508) and the Environment Agency sponsored MCERTS scheme (certification of environmental monitoring equipment performance).
Prior to the formation of UKAS in 1995, Roger worked for part of its previous incarnation NAMAS (National Measurement Accreditation Service) as a Professional and Technical Officer, with responsibility for the accreditation of laboratories involved in electrical product testing and radiological calibrations.
Sira has appointed Roger to this new position to allow the organisation to manage its expansion in certification.
Roger adds, "Sira is an organisation that I have worked with for many years when I was with UKAS and I was very aware of its professionalism, combined with a commercial success.
I very much relish the opportunity to join the team and take the business forward." In addition to being accredited by UKAS Sira Certification Service is a Notified Body for various European Directives.
Sira issues certificates for equipment used in potentially explosive atmospheres, safety related systems and gas detectors.
Certificates awarded by Sira are recognised throughout the European Union and world-wide.
Sira assesses and certifies quality management systems according to ISO 9000, QS 9000 and ISO 14000.
Sira undertakes a range of test, calibration, training and certification services on behalf of manufacturers and users of industrial and scientific instruments.
