Sira Test and Certification can now offer companies an explosive atmosphere management service to help them comply with the Worker Protection Directive (Directive 1999/92/EC).

Sira Test and Certification can now offer companies an explosive atmosphere management service to help them comply with the Worker Protection Directive (Directive 1999/92/EC) The Worker Protection Directive (WPD) concentrates on a particular hazard - explosive atmospheres - and requires the employer to prepare an Explosion Protection Document (EPD) which satisfies the requirements detailed in Annex II of the directive

The EPD includes identification of hazards, the evaluation of risks and distinctly specifies the measures to be taken to safeguard the safety and health of workers at risk from explosive atmospheres.

The employer is also responsible for ensuring that the EPD is kept up to date.

The introduction of this system of documentation becomes mandatory on 1st July 2003 and Sira has introduced its new explosive atmosphere management service to provide companies with a method of outsourcing the task of preparing an EPD or to provide services in line with their individual requirements.

The new Sira explosive atmosphere management service (SEAMS) provides the following services in relation to potentially explosive atmospheres: hazard appreciation and evaluation; area classification; inspections; certification of installations, equipment and personnel; training; preparation of explosion protection document; and project management.

Sira is also able to back up all these services with technical support, ensuring that clients have a helping hand and a safety net if required.

All these services offered by Sira provide clients with a complete solution in line with the requirements of the Worker Protection Directive.

An introductory brochure about SEAMS is available free of charge.
