An innovative product certified to the European ATEX Directive by Sira Test and Certification has been presented with the Worshipful Company of Scientific Instrument Makers (WCSIM) Achievement Award The Achievement Award is given for examples of genuine innovation and the Ledpoint PRS gas detector from AMGas meets all stated criteria

Sira has certified the gas detector, which is ideal for oil or gas platforms, landfill sites, petrochemical plants and marine fuel transportation applications, to ATEX 100a (94/9/EC) Directive (equipment and protective systems intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres).

The Ledpoint PRS is a new concept in detecting flammable gases by using infra-red detection.

It consists of a dual-beam, dual-wavelength infra-red LED sensor cell, providing a system that is free of the normal shortcomings of catalytic devices as well as long life operation.

The infra-red LED based detection technique has been patented by AMGas, and operates at 3.3m using a dual beam configuration gas cell ensuring it is fully functional in even the harshest of conditions.

Traditional detectors only have a limited life, and as a typical oil or gas platform requires 500-1000 gas detectors it is of great benefit that The Ledpoint PRS is directly interchangeable with existing gas detection systems.

It would typically be used on oil or gas platforms, but it can also be used in petrochemical plants, landfill sites and marine fuel transportation.

Confirmed customers for the device include: BP, Shell, Centrica and Talisman.
