A Sira product story

Sira's Safety Compliance team and Peppers Cable Glands have worked together to bring Peppers' new range of barrier glands to the European market.

Sira's Safety Compliance team and Peppers Cable Glands have worked together to bring Peppers' new range of barrier glands to the European market, by ensuring the range achieved ATEX certification in record time.

Tush Thakore, Commercial Director at Peppers Cable Glands explains: "Sira was the only certification body to guarantee completion of the certification project within preset timelines and at a reasonable cost".

"In addition, Sira is known for using a sensible commercial approach, so that certification processes are not needlessly repeated, enabling us to pass on the cost and time benefits to our customers".

Peppers' cable glands are devices that are designed to permit the entry of a cable into electrical equipment and which provide sealing and retention.

With Sira's help, Peppers has recently launched a new range of superior, cost effective barrier glands in Europe, for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Sira ensured that the new glands complied with the ATEX Directive and then certified them for use in the European market.

This ATEX directive has been adopted by the European Union (EU) to facilitate free trade in the EU by aligning the technical and legal requirements in the member states for products (such as electrical and mechanical equipment and protective systems) intended for use in potentially explosive atmospheres.

Compliance with the directive became mandatory on the 1st July 2003.

Any product that falls within the scope of the directive and is to be sold or serviced within the EU, must comply with the Essential Health and Safety Requirements (EHSR's) specified in the directive.

Any delay in bringing new product to market, for instance by a protracted certification process, would lose sales for the manufacturer.
