A two-day course, Modern Optical Testing will enable engineers, scientists and managers to understand modern optical testing techniques and the advantages and disadvantages of the various optical test procedures.
Taking place on 4 and 5 December 2000, it will explain the basic concepts of interferometric optical testing and enable participants to appreciate the power, capabilities and limitations of phase-shifting interferometry.
Other topics include techniques for testing mirrors, windows, prisms and diffraction gratings.
Taking place on the subsequent two days, 6 and 7 December, Principles for Mounting Optical Components is an intermediate-level course which includes a review of techniques commonly used to mount individual and multiple lenses, optical filters, windows, shells and domes.
It will enable participants to identify critical aspects of the optic-to-mount interface and understand the importance of choosing appropriate optical and mechanical materials.
"This is the second part of the programme in collaboration with SPIE which we launched earlier this year," commented Sira's technology marketing manager, Anne Burns.
"It represents the first time that Sira has joined forces with another leading organisation to expand our range of short courses in optics, photonics and imaging." The instructor of Modern Optical Testing is James C Wyant, co-founder and former president of WYKO Corporation.
Principles for Mounting Optical Components will be presented by Paul Yoder, who for over 40 years has been designing and managing the development of optical components and instruments.
