Sira Test and Certification, the principal UK ATEX notified body has been acquired by Volvere, the UK safety services and investment group.

Sira Test and Certification, the principal UK ATEX notified body has been acquired by Volvere, the UK safety services and investment group.

The acquisition, which took effect on 30th September 2005, will enable Sira Certification to build on its position as one of the world's foremost certification businesses for both the IECEx and European ATEX certification schemes.

As part of Volvere, Sira Certification will be a sister company of Vectra Group, which specialises in safety and risk assessment.

Vectra has ten offices, including sites in the UK, Den Haag and Abu Dhabi, and the acquisition will enable Sira to capitalise on access to over 100 Vectra specialists and engineers.

Mike Shearman, General Manager of the facility based in Chester, commented: "I believe that both our employees and clients will benefit and we are excited by what this development will bring".

"Our ability to respond to clients needs in terms of required delivery time at a competitive price, whilst providing assistance throughout projects has always been a cornerstone of our service philosophy and Volvere's acquisition can only enhance our position in the Ex market".

"Volvere's influence and investment will underpin our continued growth and status as a world leader in our field".

Sira Certification will continue to offer ATEX product and production certification, ATEX 137 and DSEAR compliance assessment, functional safety (IEC61508) certification, hazardous area training and personnel competence certification.

Sira's laboratory will continue to support these activities.

All certificates and reports issued by Sira to date will be maintained and their current status will be unaffected by the acquisition.

Sira's UKAS accredited body status, IECEx appointment and ATEX notified body status will continue as normal.
