The HSE is focusing on the industry as it has by far the highest incidents of injury and death, figures quoted include 114 deaths in just twelve months 2000-2001, many accidents accruing due to unsafe handling of materials at height.
The current solution to this problem is to enclose the load and crane fork with a safety net.
The net is designed to sustain a static load of twice the working load limit of the crane fork and is therefore bulky and cumbersome to use.
Camlok believes that accidents caused by unsafe handling of material at height can be easily avoided, and has designed a steel safety pallet for use with a Camlok crane fork.
The crane fork is used to load the palletised construction material into the safety pallet and then lift and transport the safety pallet and load.
The standard safety pallet is designed to accommodate loads of 1m3.
The crane forks with pallet lock-on device are rated at working load limit 1t or working load limit 2t and have adjustable tines.
Manual or automatic (via a gas spring) unloaded balance models of the crane fork are available.
Camlock considers this equipment offers the most positive solution to the safe overhead handling of construction material on building sites.
