Lock protects charging devices from theft

A Camlock Systems product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 19, 2007

ChargeBoxes use Octagon high-security locks made by Camlock Systems.

The ChargeBox enables users to recharge devices such as mobile phones, portable media players, PDAs and handheld games consoles while they in a safe locker.

When users are away from home, they can leave their device charging in the knowledge it is secure and then collect it at their convenience.

ChargeBoxes can be found in locations such as hotels, gyms, train stations, airports, hospitals, internet cafes and on the high street.

The cost to use a ChargeBox can be paid either with a GBP 1 coin or by a SMS text, which costs GBP 1.50.

Octagon products are constructed for maximum reliability and durability.

Camlock restricts the issue of duplicate keys for the Octagon locks fitted to ChargeBox machines solely to the proprietors.

In addition, most ChargeBoxes are watched over by staff at the location and many are also monitored by CCTV cameras.

Managing Director of ChargeBox Ian Hobson said: "Our research shows that people are becoming more and more dependent on mobile devices and running out of battery power when on the move is a major inconvenience".

"We place great importance on keeping these devices secure while in the Chargebox so after trying other brands of locks, we now specify Camlock's Octagon to protect all our machines".
