Safety network compatible with exisiting bus types
Siemens Automation and Drives recently launched its own Safety Integrated initiative, which includes everything from failsafe PLCs and I/O modules to emergency stop buttons and light curtains.
A single, IP20 DIN rail mounted, DP slave module can support up to 64 different switches or lights, as well as providing all the necessary power for illuminated units.
Installation is quick and easy, with modules simply plugging onto the back of the actuator, in place of a conventional contact block or lamp holder.
No soldering or screw connections are required, reducing installation times by as much as 50 per cent.
As well as reducing wiring costs, the use of a PROFIBUS-DP network enables users to access status information via the fieldbus.
Switching states, whether illuminators are lit, diagnostic information and configuration data are all available over the bus.
In addition, SIGNUM 3SB3 Command Devices are designed to operate in hostile environments and are rated to IP67 and NEMA 4 without accessories.
