Siemens Automation and Drives has expanded its range of industrial PCs with integrated front panels to include the new Simatic Panel PC870.

This new Panel PC includes a TFT (thin film transistor) display, which is available in sizes up to 15.1".

Designed for process automation applications requiring excellent display clarity, the Simatic Panel PC can be configured according to the performance required.

The processor can be selected from a range of Intel Celeron and Pentium III chips, with speeds from 566MHz to 866MHz.

A variety of operating systems, memory capacity between 64 and 512MB, drive and hard disk configurations can be specified, to suit the application.

Three front panel versions are available.

The user can select from either a 12.1" or 15.1" display with alphanumeric membrane keyboard, 36 function keys with LEDs and integral front panel mouse, or a 15.1" touch screen.

The Simatic Panel PC870 is compatible with all Simatic hardware and can be programmed using a choice of software including WinCC or ProTool/Pro, making them ideal for Totally Integrated Automation applications.

All the necessary communications interfaces are integrated onto the motherboard.

These include; ethernet at 10/100 Mbit/s, Profibus/MPI with a data rate of up to 12Mbit/s, plus one USB interface on the front and a further two on the back for hot plug and play.
