Siemens Automation and Drives has added devices for distributed configurations to its family of integral front panel industrial PCs The Simatic Panel PCs 670 and 870 are now also available in versions where the control unit and the computer unit can be separated from each other up to a distance of 20m, and connected by cable

This new design makes the Simatic Panel PCs particularly suitable for use where space is restricted - in operator consoles, for example, and on swivel arms.

The new design is available for the Simatic Panel PCs 670 and 870 in the 12in touch and key versions as well as the 15in touch and key versions.

Signals are transmitted digitally between the computer and the control unit, and are therefore immune to noise.

The rugged cable is available in lengths of 2, 5, 10 and 20m.

It is resistant to industrial oils and is suitable for up to ten million bending cycles.

All the necessary PC components are included in the scope of supply: computer and control unit - each with send/receive module - as well as the connecting cable.

The Simatic Panels PCs 670/870 with distributed design have the same functionality as PCs with centralised design.

For example, the same direct control key module can be used, and the interfaces are also identical: The USB (Universal Serial Bus) port on the front of the control unit can be used, for example, for startup and service, and the USB port on the rear can be used for an additional keyboard during operation.
