Sensor is a specialist for data matrix code

A Siemens Automation and Drives product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Jun 20, 2003

The Simatic VS 130 is a rugged and easy to use image processing sensor which reads data matrix code efficiently.

With the Simatic VS 130 vision sensor, Siemens Automation and Drives (A and D) has expanded its VS-100 product range with a rugged and easy to use image processing sensor which reads data matrix code efficiently.

With a maximum throughput of five codes per second, the Simatic VS 130 reads the ECC200 error correction code according to IEC/ISO16022 and transfers the data for evaluation via Profibus DP or serial interface to a controller or PC.

The new vision sensor is available as a complete package - with sensor, evaluator and lighting unit as well as all the necessary cables.

It can be used right away without any special image processing knowhow.

No programming is necessary, either.

The Simatic VS 130 can decipher the data matrix code from a variety of surfaces, independent of the encoding process - whether printed or generated by laser.

The 2D codes are reliably identified even under difficult circumstances involving irregularities or surface distortions.

It takes no special knowledge to implement a Vision Sensor solution, since it is not programmed in the traditional way but simply "trained".

During setup, the live image is displayed on the PC.

The vision sensor is operated either using the integrated text display and control keys or remotely - digitally, serially or using the Profibus DP interface.

The Simatic VS 130 is available in three versions: two of them feature a preset vision range and are thus ready for startup; one of them is with a standardised C/CS mount lens adapter for individual image processing solutions.
