Siemens Automation and Drives is strengthening its position in the field of switching and installation engineering through a takeover of the Moeller Busbar Trunking Systems Division, subject to the approval of the anti-trust authorities.

This Division employs some 600 people at four manufacturing locations in Germany, Spain, the UK and China and had sales of about EUR95million in the last fiscal year.

Both parties have agreed not to disclose the purchase price.

The busbar trunking systems business of Moeller supplements the Siemens portfolio in power distribution and reinforces the market position of the A and D Group in Europe, the Middle East and Asia.

The global market for busbar trunking systems currently has a volume of about EUR700million and is growing annually by 3-4 percent.

In the UK this announcement will affect about 90 employees in Aylesbury.

These employees will transfer to Siemens Automation and Drives.

Busbar trunking systems transmit and distribute power in functional and industrial buildings and offer advantages over conventional cables: high flexibility, simple configuring and assembly, high power transmission and low fire load hazard.

"The sale has taken us a major step further toward implementing our concentration strategy.

"On the one hand we are optimising the financial basis of the Moeller Group.

"On the other we are increasing our competitiveness by investing further in the development of new products and systems of our core range.

"But it was especially important to us to secure the jobs of our employees" said Theo Kubat, managing director of Moeller Holding GmbH.

Siemens A and D Group president Helmut Gierse responded: "With Moeller busbar trunking systems, we now offer a full range of products in the infrastructure business, supplementing our range of totally integrated power (TIP) products.".
