Woodford Litho has recently upgraded the control system of its three presses using Siemens expertise and in-house resources.
The Profinet interface is used for industrial Ethernet communication at the cell level and for connecting I/O devices and field devices with a Profinet interface, such as the Simatic ET 200S distributed I/O station.
Profibus devices are connected via an additional Profibus interface.
That also makes the Profinet CPUs suitable as routers from the Ethernet to Profibus.
Using the Step 7 engineering tool, the CPUs can be programmed over Ethernet from a central programming device or PC.
The field devices connected to the lower-level Profibus can also be accessed from a central point.
Profinet field devices, such as I/O devices, are developed quickly with the development kit claimed Siemens.
It includes a CD-ROM with the relevant software and a license providing authorisation for both the development and the production of a single product line.
