Two new software tools promise simple configuration and safe operation of industrial PCs.

Siemens Automation and Drives (A and D) has developed two new software tools for the simple configuration and safe operation of industrial PCs: the Simatic PC BIOS-Manager and the Simatic PC DiagMonitor Version 2.0 Using the new Simatic PC BIOS-Manager software tool, BIOS (basic input output system) settings can be processed by Siemens' Simatic PCs

Configurations such as PC system data can be archived in files for quality management.

A previously field-proven configuration is simply transferred to other Simatic PCs and if servicing is required, the valid PC parameterisation is quickly restored.

The Simatic PC DiagMonitor software monitors and detects possible hardware and software faults in Simatic PCs at an early stage.

Using the 2.0 version, operating data such as temperatures or fan speeds can now be recorded over definable periods.

This is supplemented with integral log functions and text messages, and is graphically analysed in a clear way.

If required, extensive data on system statuses such as watchdog, operating temperature, fan speed or hard disk status are sent automatically via Ethernet, e-mail or SMS (telephone).

These data can be integrated into automation applications via OPC and further processed - a simple operation if an SNMP-OPC server is available.

The integral time synchronisation allows operation of the Simatic PC without CMOS battery, thus also reducing maintenance costs.
