New guidelines for variable speed drives + motors
While the connection between motor and inverter supply is usually straightforward, there are still a number of issues which need to be carefully considered, as this article explains
One of the key benefits is that there is no longer a need to remove the lid for programming due to the transmitter being able to be configured using a nonintrusive infra-red handheld programmer.
The two-wire, 25GHz pulse radar transmitter is designed for the continuous monitoring of liquids and slurries within storage and process vessels including those of high-temperature and pressure up to a range of 20m.
The transmitter is ideal for small vessels and low di-electric media within the chemical, oil and gas, power and the food and beverage industries.

Choosing and Using Soft Starters
Due to the improved operating characteristics they give to the equipment they control, electronic motor soft starters are increasingly widely applied. Peter Costello of Siemens explains
The product is easy to install, featuring a narrow horn and beam, enabling its installation anywhere on a tank.
The transmitter is also quick and easy to configure and can be operational within minutes after installation whilst remaining highly reliable and accurate.
Derek Moore commented: "The Sitrans LR250 is not the first 24-26GHz radar on the market, but it does feature a number of performance advantages through its process intelligence echo processing".
"The transmitter is the closest the industry has come to the concept of a plug and play transmitter, as the two-wire device is the easiest to install and quickest to configure within the market place".
Programming of the transmitter is simple through the use of the multi-lingual Quick Start Wizard, which guides users to programme the transmitter using minimal parameters.
As a result, the system can be up and running within just a few minutes.
Programming is possible via a small handheld programmer or remotely using the Simatic PDM, both of which can be carried out without lifting the lid of the device, reducing the risk of exposure to the electronics from an aggressive atmosphere.
Process Intelligence signal processing is also incorporated to evaluate dynamic echo signals, and applies algorithms to raw echoes to produce accurate and reliable level measurement readings.
The transmitter is suited to chemical, pharmaceutical and hydrocarbon processing applications including corrosive environments.
