Light sensor module eases
interconnection
The K45F 2F-DI light sensor (LS) module allows electronic safety sensors with testing semiconductor outputs to be integrated in AS-Interface networks.
Siemens Automation and Drives (AandD) has released the K45F 2F-DI light sensor (LS) module, allowing electronic safety sensors with testing semiconductor outputs to be integrated in AS-Interface networks These include contact-free protective devices such as active, optoelectronic standard light grids and light curtains (type 2/type 4 according to IEC/EN 61496-1, -2)

Safety network compatible with exisiting bus types
Siemens Automation and Drives recently launched its own Safety Integrated initiative, which includes everything from failsafe PLCs and I/O modules to emergency stop buttons and light curtains.
This enables the user to connect even standard devices which do not have their own interfaces.
The module is installed using plug and play technology, by means of prefabricated cables with M12 plugs on each end.
This allows the modules to be quickly and easily swapped in a maintenance situation.
At the same time, the K45F 2F-DI LS module reduces wiring costs, because the power is also supplied via the AS-i cable.
No separate supply of 24V auxiliary power to the module is required.
For large protective field widths, a power decoupling module was also developed for the transmitter power supply.
The K45F 2F-DI LS is certified for SIL 3 according to IEC61508 and can also be used on the American market since it has UL, CSA and NRTL approval.
