Added safety functions in the Sinamics S120 drive system V2.5 enable reliable monitoring of the drive during operation.

V2.5 of the Sinamics S120 drive system from Siemens Automation and Drives (AandD) features additional safety functions.

The Safe Stop 2, Safe Operating Stop, Safe Brake Ramp, Safely-Limited Speed and Safe Speed Monitor functions complement the already integrated basic safety functions.

When the basic safety functions, namely Safe Torque Off, Safe Stop 1 and Safe Brake Control, are selected, for example in a dangerous situation, the power supply to the motor is reliably cut off.

The added safety functions also enable reliable monitoring of the drive during operation or when temporary exceptional situations come up, such as equipping or maintenance work.

Because the position control function normally remains active, operation of the drive axis can be continued immediately when the exceptional situation ends.

Maintenance work can be carried out safety.

Downtimes of the machine or plant are reduced as a result.

The safety functions are controlled either via fail-safe input terminals at the new TM54F terminal module or with Profisafe via Profibus when the drive is integrated in the overall automation network.
