Siemens Automation and Drives' proximity sensors can detect objects in a range of sizes, at ranges of up to 30m.

Siemens Automation and Drives has released the Simatic PXO830 GL forked light sensor, the Simatic PXO840 LV70 fibre optic sensor and the Simatic PXO650 L90L laser distance sensor The devices offer a high degree of detection accuracy and allow easy installation

The spectrum of the new photoelectric sensors ranges from the detection of small objects to the recognition of larger objects at distances of up to 30m.

The proximity switches are suitable for activities such as monitoring, testing, detection or positioning.

The Simatic PXO830 GL forked light sensor precisely detects objects of 0.2mm and above.

It is available in fork widths of 30, 50, 80 and 120mm which means that it can be used for a variety of different object sizes.

A switching frequency of 2kHz enables fast process runs whilst clearly visible LED displays allow the status to be checked from all sides.

The transmitter and receiver are integrated in a rugged but light plastic housing.

Simatic PXO830 GL is available with three or four-pole M8 connections and the device can be quickly and easily fitted using screws or a dovetail bracket.

The Simatic PXO840 LV70 fibre optic sensor offers a high degree of recognition accuracy at short distances.

Each small device can be snapped onto a standard DIN rail which enables a great deal of space to be saved.

Up to four devices communicate via an optical interface.

This in turn means that the devices cannot influence one other.

As well as the switching output the fibre optic sensor also has an analogue output with 0-10 V.

The small and robust housing is IP64 protected, with membrane pushbuttons.

A built in display shows detailed diagnostic information which enables errors to be eliminated quickly.

A further advantage of this device is that it allows either a cable or four-pole M8 plug to be used as a connection.

Finally, with its high scanning and operating ranges the new Simatic PXO650 L90L laser distance sensor can detect objects at distances of up to 6m.

Use of additional reflectors enables objects to be recognised in reflexive mode at distances up to 30m.

The lasers which are used offer a small and focused measuring spot, for example 4 x 12mm at a distance of six meters and can precisely measure clearances over large distances.

A visible red pilot laser and a two-button control also simplify the alignment process.

The "light source" in the operating state is a nonvisible class 1 IR laser, preventing any risk of irritation to operating staff during the work procedure.
