Siemens introduces oxygen gas analyser

A Siemens Automation and Drives product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Apr 9, 2009

The Sitrans SL in-situ oxygen gas analyser from Siemens Industry Automation and Drive Technologies is designed to make gas measurement easier and more accurate for the chemical and steel industries.

The Sitrans SL in-situ oxygen gas analyser is based on tunable diode laser (TDL) technology.

Two opposing sensors are mounted directly on to the process.

One sensor is used to transmit a laser signal that passes through the gas before reaching the receiving sensor, where a continuous measurement is taken.

As the measurements are taken in-situ, the need for gas sampling is eliminated, making the monitoring process quicker and safer.

Typically it will take between just one and three seconds to process a measurement.

In addition, in-situ analysis also reduces downtime as potentially high-maintenance components such as sample lines, filters, traps and chillers are eliminated from the gas path.

The Sitrans SL is configured as a process transmitter, ready for network connection under the Siemens Totally Integrated Automation platform concept.

The product has been designed to offer a high level of accuracy.

Stability is assured by the use of an internal gas reference cell, giving long periods between calibration.

The lasers narrow bandwidth means that only the gas of interest will be measured, with other factors such as dust and moisture not interfering with the readings.
