Shearline Precision Engineering, a UK-based 'total manufacturing solution' provider, has announced the acquisition of Hybrid Laser Tech, a precision laser cutting company located in Cambridge.

Hybrid Laser Tech, established in 1988, is renowned in the laser cutting industry for its abilities to laser cut the most complex designs on a wide range of materials.

Using Coherent Everlase CO2 laser systems, the company provides precision cutting and scribing of ceramic substrates and precision cutting of thin metals, wood, paper, plastics, acrylics, PCB and PZT.

Originally set up to provide a laser cutting service to the hybrid microelectronics industry, the company has successfully expanded to service major clients in the aerospace, education, medical and telecommunications industries.

Shearline Precision Engineering completed the acquisition to increase its manufacturing and engineering capabilities for the benefit of new and existing customers.

The acquisition is a positive step forward and will enable both companies to further strengthen relationships with clients on a national and international level by offering value added services and continuing to meet customer demand.

Graham Smith, Shearline Precision Engineering's managing director, said: 'The acquisition of Hybrid Laser Tech represents a further step in our strategy to strengthen and extend the range of services we offer for the benefit of all of our customers'.

'There are substantial synergies between Hybrid's capabilities in precision laser cutting and Shearline's total manufacturing solution and integrated engineering service'.

'This acquisition is an excellent strategic fit with our business strategy to reinforce our strong position in the industry and ensure that we are all in a robust position to take advantage of the latest growth in manufacturing confidence'.

Under the management of Shearline Precision Engineering, all existing employees at Hybrid Laser Tech will continue to operate from its Cambridge facility offering the same level of service and commitment to its customers.

Long-term plans are currently being proposed for a further extension to Shearline's facility in Ely.

Once complete, the equipment and staff at the Hybrid Laser Tech operation will take up residence with Shearline in a custom built production facility.
