Shearline Engineering reaches international shores
Shearline Precision Engineering has enhanced its 'Total Manufacturing Solution' offering with the launch of a 'two-tiered' international outsourcing facility
It is used for electromechanical assembly and prototype production of products and components for markets such as scientific and medical instrumentation, information and communications technology and commercial inkjet printing.
The flexible layout is based on Kaizen principles and designed to reduce set-up and improve production flow.
Graham Smith, Shearline's Managing Director, said: "The new assembly and finishing area has enhanced this aspect of the operation by allowing us to work with full ESD capabilities to produce high quality components, manufactured and delivered to the tightest deadlines with the utmost efficiency".
The assembly and finishing area also has one of three Kardex vertical storage systems, which have been installed throughout the factory.
The Kardex Shuttle NT is fully automated and increases efficiency, control and security.
Standing at 8.5m high and holding 74 trays, the system is used for storing finished goods and assemblies and takes up 5.7m2 of floor space but gives 112m2 of storage area.
Shearline has also increased its manufacturing and engineering capabilities following the acquisition, in August 2005, of Hybrid Laser Tech , a precision laser cutting company in Cambridge.
Using the Coherent Everlase CO2 laser systems, Shearline can provide precision cutting and scribing of ceramic substrates and precision cutting of thin metals, wood, paper, plastics, acrylics, PCB and PZT.
