SI Pressure Instruments has made a spectacular entry into the Russian and Ukrainian oil and gas industry with two of its newest products.

Following the appointment of Russian distributor, Artvik.

in September last year for sales into the former Soviet Union (FSU) countries, SI has achieved sales in excess of GBP 100,000 in the first quarter of 2002 with end-users including Kiev Transgas and the world's largest gas transporter, Gaz Prom which operates the pipeline from Siberia to Turkey and through the Ukraine to Europe.

95% of this business comes from orders for two new versions of SI Pressure Instruments' hand-held PC6 pressure calibrator.

The PC6-Pro combines pressure measurement with both source and sink electrical facilities making it ideal for applications in gas production, transportation and processing, oil refining and petrochemical plants.

The IS-PC6 is the intrinsically safe version of the PC6, specifically designed for use in hazardous environments such as those found in the offshore and petrochemicals industries.

The IS-PC6 is being used extensively in the gas transportation industry for the in-situ calibration of equipment used to measure differential pressure in gas pipelines where the smallest variance in the flow rate converts into vast sums of money.

Following the devaluation of the ruble in 1998, the Russian economy has rebounded, showing 5.3% growth in the first half of 2001 and providing a wealth of opportunity for companies such as SI.

"We visited Moscow in June last year and were extremely excited by the prospects offered by the Russian market - following the economic hardship of the last few years, you can almost sense opportunity in the air as the country continues its recovery", said Adrian Hunter.

"We were never in doubt that there was a significant market for SI's products in Russia but we have been surprised at just how quickly it has developed due to the combination of world class products and the efforts of our new distributor".

The company's successful entry into the FSU countries is just the latest evidence of SI's worldwide success with an upturn in business in North and South America, the Far East and Australia.

Despite difficult trading conditions in 2001 following the events of 11th September, SI returned a strong performance with a turnover of almost GBP 3 million, up on 2000.

This included a GBP 100,000 order from the US Navy which is currently conducting major trials with the equipment.

And 2002 looks set to break all records with orders totalling GBP 1 million in the first quarter alone and further world-beating new products due to be launched over the course of the year.
