Programming tool aids bespoke weighing systems

A Sartorius UK product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Nov 24, 2006

Sartorius has built a bridge between the individual requirements of customised weighing systems and easy-to-use, uncomplicated programming with the PR 1750/60 graphic development tool.

The varieties of weighing systems applications are as diverse as the branches of industry in which they are used.

This makes special customer requests and the extension of existing weighing applications commonplace.

The adaptation of a weighing system such as batching and filling specific to customer circumstances usually requires a great deal of time and effort.

Sartorius has now built a bridge between the individual requirements of customised weighing systems and easy-to-use, uncomplicated programming - even for beginners - with the Sartorius PR 1750/60 graphic development tool.

This programming system for X-family controllers and the Combics Pro terminal provides the option to create customer-specific software or simply to extend the standard software of existing weighing applications.

The X-family controllers and the Combics Pro terminal can thus unfold their full performance capabilities.

Programming of the PR 1750 can take place, on the one hand, in the standard programming languages in accordance with IEC61131; on the other hand, it is now possible to create and simulate the programming procedures in a new, easy to use graphic form.

In addition, PR 1750/60 has special functions in order to meet the special requirements of weighing and batching technology.

The fully graphic operation of the development tool was specially developed for the PR 1750.

In doing so, the graphic options extend beyond the usual measure of traditional programming tools and make it easy even for beginners to create programs quickly and easily.

No knowledge of special syntax is required.

The pictorial representation expresses more than any programming text making the solution fast and simple.

Finally, the program code for a complete project can now be created automatically from the graphics environment in recognised IEC61131 format.

The consistent use of graphics creates significant timesaving due to shorter familiarisation periods as well as improved project planning and thus reduces commissioning risks.

Software support and maintenance costs are also reduced due to the ease and flexibility of modification and the customer-specific project documentation.

The greater transparency of the program makes the programming procedure easier to understand.

Errors can be found more easily or directly avoided.

The dependability and reliability of the entire system is increased as a result.

Comprehensive debugging and diagnostic functions facilitate convenient testing and shorten the time taken both in searching for errors and commissioning.

In addition, the programmed operating sequences and control procedures can be tested directly on the PC using the built-in graphic simulation.

At the same time, the equipment (X-Controllers/Combics Pro) can be fully modelled and simulated on the PC including the operation and control of inputs and outputs.

This makes it possible to simulate different conditions and the behaviour of the associated inputs and outputs.

Thus the more complex behaviour of process equipment can be adjusted and tested without the necessity to connect external I/O modules.
