Weighing in at over four tonnes and fitted with generous hardened and ground slideways, the Bridgeport VMC 1000 has axis travels which make it ideal for mould and die type machining

Weighing in at over four tonnes and fitted with generous hardened and ground slideways, the Bridgeport VMC 1000 vertical machining centre has axis travels of 1,000 mm in X and 510 mm in Y and can be specified with up to 700 mm Z axis, which is ideal for mould and die type machining Now available from 600 Centre of Shepshed near Loughborough, Director and General Manager, Tim Hately says: "Our application engineering for both 'off the shelf' installations and 'total turnkey engineering' provides customers with high levels of support for what is an exceptional quality and value for money product range." The VMC 1000 is able to generate highly productive machining cycles through the Heidenhain TNC 410 control with 6 m/min2 acceleration in X and Y axes to reach 40 m/min rapid traverse rates

Rapid traverse in the vertical Z-axis is 30 m/min.

A range of optional direct-drive, water-cooled spindles, developed and built at the Leicester factory of Bridgeport, are available in addition to the standard 13 kW 6,000 revs/min unit.

Included in the options list is a massive 25 kW high torque motor and, for higher speed requirements, 10,000 and 12,000 revs/min spindle variants.

A high positioning accuracy of five microns is matched with a repeatability of just two microns as standard.

Meanwhile, linear scales can be specified to meet any higher precision requirements.

For high accuracy and high speed contouring, the digital system of motors and drives precisely matches the control system giving good response and smoother motor control with tighter control loops.

The Heidenhain TNC 410 system can be easily programmed in plain language at the machine or ISO 6983 format.

It will also accommodate programs developed on older Heidenhain control systems.

The work table is 1,150 mm by 580 mm with a 900 Kg loading capability.

Further machine options of fourth and fifth axes, speed indexer, and either 22 or 30 tool magazine are available.

Tools up to 6 Kg in weight, 130 mm diameter by 250 mm long can be carried.

Through spindle coolant flow can be specified in addition to the standard flood coolant system.
