Insulation tester only takes a second

A Socket and See product story
Edited by the Engineeringtalk editorial team Oct 8, 2004

Kew Technik's Socket and See division is launching the DIT 400 easy-to-use, rapid, low-cost digital installation tester that is fully compliant with the requirements of BS EN61557.

Having established a technological lead in BS1683 socket testers, Kew Technik's Socket and See division is launching the first of a new series of easy-to-use, low-cost installation testers that are fully compliant with the requirements of BS EN 61557 (Electrical safety in low voltage distribution systems up to 1000V AC and 1500V DC - Equipment for testing, measuring or monitoring of protective measures).

A digital insulation/continuity tester is generally recognised as the electrician's single most important test tool.

The Socket and See DIT 400 is no exception, and will clearly make an immense difference to fast, accurate testing.

This new tester is provided with three test voltages (250, 500 and 1000V), and has been built with a new super fast system (SFS) measuring technique that delivers incredibly fast readings of typically less than 1second.

The speed advantage of SFS is not the only attraction.

In addition, the Socket and See design team also claims a substantial increase in battery life.

Unlike other testers that use six or even eight batteries, the DIT 400 uses just four AA cells, which will achieve in excess of 4000 tests at 500V.

Other useful features of the DIT 400 include different tones for indicating a 'pass' or 'fail' (either side of 2MOhms) when used in SFS mode, a visual warning if the circuit being tested has 50V or more present, and accurate readings for when certified insulation tests are being performed (these are also remarkably fast, at around 3seconds per test).

Socket and See is confident that the easy-to-use DIT 400 will soon be part of every electrician's tool kit and it comes at a price that will not break the bank.
