Fasteners get to grip with hubs
Fastening rotating components to shafts has become easier with the publication of the new 96-page "Handbook of Fairloc components, the integral fastener".
They were designed for use in a wide variety of instrumentation applications wherever the starting torque is too great for conventional all-plastic gears.
Known as Super-Plast gears, they combine knurled brass inserts within a thick wall moulded acetal hub to provide additional torsional strength.
Stock Drive Product offers these gears as the A 1T 2 (inch) and A 1Z 2M (metric) Series.
There are 97 inch sizes and 28 sizes of Module 1.0 metric Super-Plast gears.
Also offered are 57 inch and 46 metric size gear blanks.
These gears are available for off-the-shelf delivery in 0.125, 0.1875, 0.25 and 0.3125in plus 4, 5, 6 and 8mm bore sizes.
The pitch diameters for these standardised gears range from 0.375 to 3in and from 24 to 60mm, the number of teeth from 12 to 120.
List prices range from $3.11 to $7.96 with substantial discounts for larger quantities.
The pricing structure for Super-Plast gears presents a strong case for their use in replacing conventional all-metal gears at a substantial cost savings.
Complete technical specifications are contained in Catalogue D790, available free on request, from Stock Drive Products.
