Cable drives are compact and reliable
Synchromesh cable drives are designed for positive traction to replace conventional ropes, simple cables and cog drives, especially where tight space is an important factor.
A new series of synchromesh cable drives introduced by Stock Drive Products are uniquely designed for positive traction to replace conventional ropes, simple cables and cog drives, especially where tight space is an important factor.
This new cable drive is designed to provide high precision positioning in electronic equipment such as: copying machines, x-y plotters, typewriters, printers, word processors etc.
A key feature of the new drive is its ability to be used in three-dimensional serpentine configurations which enable the creation of extremely miniature designs.
Synchromesh cable can be used with lower tension when compared with ropes which reduces power consumption.
Unlike ropes, wind-up around drums is not required which eliminates problems with dislocated printing caused by accumulation of elongation when rope is used due to wind-up.
This patented miniature cable, identified as the A 6J 9- and A 6J 9M Series, consists of a straight centre section, encased in Nylon and a helically wound outer length encased in polyurethane.
Both cable strands consist of braided stainless steel cores.
The cable is stocked in both inch and metric in the following pitches: 0.120, 0.150, 0.200 and 0.250in (3.048, 3.81, 5.08 and 6.35mm).
The cable OD ranges from 1.5 to 3.4mm and has minimum tensile loads ranging from 18 to 90kg.
Pitch accuracy of the drive is +/-0.05mm and cumulative pitch error is +/-4.06mm maximum over 100 pitches.
The flexing cycle life of the drive is 1 million cycles minimum where the pulley pitch radius is R = 13.9 x (straight centre section diameter d2) and the static tension is Ts = 0.05 x TB (minimum tensile load).
The temperature range recommended is -30 to +80C.
There is a complete selection of 34 inch and metric synchromesh pulleys designed to fit 2 to 10mm shafts.
These pulleys are made of Acetal with brass or aluminium inserts to provide the strength characteristics of all metal pulleys with the weight and cost savings associated with plastic components.
