Prevent fretting corrosion between metal
surfaces
SKF has announced the introduction of an advanced anti-fretting agent called LGAF 3E, which is a smooth, greasy paste that prevents fretting corrosion between metal surfaces with a clearance fit
SKF has announced the introduction of an advanced anti-fretting agent called LGAF 3E, which is a smooth, greasy paste that prevents fretting corrosion between metal surfaces with a clearance fit Clearance fits are used for either the inner or the outer ring of non-locating bearings, where at least one of the two rings needs to permit free axial motion

Seals boost food production safey
SKF Economos' new seals can be quickly and simply found with standard metal detection equipment should any small pieces fall into the product being processed.
The only exceptions to this rule are N and NU cylindrical roller bearings where the axial displacement can take place within the bearing itself.
Fretting corrosion occurs in a situation where two contacting surfaces are rubbing against each other at small amplitudes.
Parts of the surfaces "weld" together by adhesion and the displacement is too small for the surfaces to be sheared off.
While the rubbing motion continues, fatigue cracks are initiated by high shear stresses around the adhered area.
As a result of surface initiated fatigue, wear particles break out of the material, become trapped between the surfaces and oxidise.
Apart from causing dismounting problems, these oxidised particles prevent free axial displacement and introduce increased load in the bearing, which in severe cases may lead to immediate bearing failure.
Reduction of fretting corrosion facilitates the easy dismounting of bearings and ensures sliding on loose bearing arrangements such as vibrating screens and truck and car wheel bearings.
It also facilitates the easy removal of general industrial components such as nuts, bolts, flanges, studs, bearings, guide pins, couplings, jack screws, lathe centres, push rods and spline shafts in a wide range of applications.
The LGAF 3E anti-fretting agent is suitable for all industries where fretting corrosion is a major concern, including automotive OEM's (car manufacturers and trailer manufacturers), automotive workshops (truck hub units, car wheel units and trailer axles), the railway industry (train wheel bearing outer rings and housings), mining and construction (vibrating screens) and the farm and forestry industries (various Y bearing arrangements).
Test results show that the new LAGF 3E is more than three times as effective as other products in the same field and compared to its nearest competitor, LAGF 3E facilitates at least ten million more cycles before fretting occurs. Request a free brochure from SKF UK ...
