SKF Service Division, at SKF's Luton plant, has achieved an award for an accident free workplace.

Mr Paul Dysiewicz, Engineering Manager for SKF Service Division in the UK, received the Zero Accidents Silver Award from Mr Michael Abbot, SKF's Group Director for Environmental Health and Safety, at a ceremony held at the Luton plant on December 15th.

The award was given in recognition of there being no recordable accidents in the SKF Service Division's workshop in the previous year.

In congratulating the 90 employees of SKF Service Division, Mr Dysiewicz said, "We are the first SKF site in Britain to win this award and I hope to repeat the success in 2002.

We have invested heavily in ensuring that the staff are properly trained in health and safety, by running courses such as heavy lifting techniques and the proper use of equipment.

This investment has obviously paid off and has ensured that we comply with SKF's global standards of Environment, Health and Safety, which we believe are among the best in the country." SKF is present in 130 countries and the Zero Accident Award was introduced globally by the company to reach a target of no recordable accidents in any of its plants worldwide.

SKF believes that this target makes good business sense, with a safer work environment giving better productivity and cost-efficiency, and is consistent with being a responsible company.
