Total Shaft Solutions from SKF is a new service claimed to address any rotating shaft problem, benefiting customers with improvements in machine performance, reduced maintenance and downtime, together with improved plant profitability.
Any machine that has rotating shafts also has a multitude of potential problems: misalignment, vibration, poor bearing fitting and ageing technology among many others.
Under Total Shaft Solutions, SKF's engineers glean a full understanding of the operation of a particular machine and also the needs and objectives of the plant operator.
By sharing the responsibility for devising a solution to any identified rotating shaft problem, SKF takes on a far greater role than merely that of bearing supplier.
The aim is to increase profitability by improving machine running, reducing the cost of ownership (maintenance and spare parts) and maximising plant uptime and efficiency.
To achieve the objectives of both SKF and its customers, the company carries out condition monitoring, undertakes root cause failure analysis, studies the lubricants and investigates all aspects of the machine from its mechanical design to the materials and surface finishes of the shafts, housings and bearings.
