Seals boost food production safey
SKF Economos' new seals can be quickly and simply found with standard metal detection equipment should any small pieces fall into the product being processed.
Maintenance-free rod ends are primarily designed for applications where loads of constant direction occur (even heavy loads), a low or steady friction level is required, or relubrication is either not possible or not desired.
They will be used in applications such as switching levers, textile and printing machinery and food and beverage treatment machines.
Manufactured with tolerances to ISO12240-4:1998, for shaft diameters from 5 to 70mm, with female or male thread, the range of applications is further expanded by a number of sliding contact surface combinations - steel/sinter bronze composite, steel/PTFE fabric and steel/PTFE composite.

Y-bearing units handle heat and corrosion
The VA201 range of Y-bearing units suits applications where operating temperatures are between -40 and +250C and the VA228 series suits environments of between -150 and +350C.
Rod end housings are made of heat treatable or automatic steels, and are all-zinc coated and chromatised.
As the rod ends run without lubrication, seals are not required against grease leakage, although a seal protecting against the ingress of contamination or moisture can significantly prolong the service life.
SKF has also developed a range of rod ends for arduous environmental conditions, where maintenance is necessary.
Such conditions include applications where temperatures range from -50 to +300C, where dirt and dust occur and where impact or alternating loads are present.
Typically they will be found in applications in the steel construction industry, rolling mills, and in hydraulic and pneumatic cylinders.
For these harsh conditions, a robust steel-on-steel version, with relubrication facility, is available for shaft diameters from 5 to 200mm.
Housings are made of high-quality steels, free-cutting steels, or cast iron.
Also available are rod ends with a steel/bronze sliding contact surface combination, for shaft diameters from 5 to 30mm.
These rod ends provide multiple fastening possibilities, including female or male thread.
If this range is not large enough, SKF is also able to supply special bearings for exceptional applications, dependent upon quantity.
To suit customer needs, a wide choice of variants are offered, including material and lubrication requirements.
SKF will also find the optimum sliding material and develop new sealing systems for extreme conditions. Request a free brochure from SKF UK ...
